Most Mystery shopping companies are legit and you really can get paid to shop, get paid to eat in restaurants and get paid for visiting theatres, visitor attractions and even to go on a cruise holiday. However, the industry isn’t without its problems caused by scammers. While good, reliable and honest mystery shopping companies are around (and hundreds of them), there are a few devious people who have tried to scam people looking for mystery shopping jobs.
You do need to keep your wits about you when applying for mystery shopping jobs – just check out whether the company are going to want you to pay to be on their list – you shouldn’t ever need to pay to be on a list. Some mystery shopping clubs have put together lists of mystery shopping companies – and they will charge you a membership fee to get access to those mystery shopping companies. The information they provide you is available for free on the Internet (there’s my list right here, for example) – what they have done is spent a lot of time, many hours – and some money (on their website and payment gateway), to bring together the list into one easy place for you. While this was quite a useful service to pay for from the mid 1990s to about five years ago, there’s no need to pay now as lists are abundant.
