Home Typing Pay Rates

Way With Words, like all home typing jobs, pays based on the length of the audio.  They say on their website “As a general rule of thumb, an experienced transcriber will transcribe at a ratio of 4:1 whereas a novice transcriber may transcribe at a rate of 6:1. What this means is that it will take an experienced transcriber four minutes to transcribe one minute of audio (because they would need to rewind and replay the audio to ensure accuracy).”

Calculate Typing Pay Per Hour

To work out how much home typing pays per hour of typing you need to convert the $82 to your local currency, then divide it by 4.  e.g. on 15 October 2016 $82 was £67.29.  Dividing this by 4  gives £16.82  – so a good UK home typist, today, could expect to be paid about £17/hour of typing.

Audio Typing Foot Pedals

For fast audio typing you’ll want to invest in a simple foot pedal to control the rewinding of the tape when you miss something. One tap on the foot pedal and the tape rewinds and replays 2-3 seconds back. Keep your foot on the pedal to rewind further, as soon as you lift your foot the tape will continue. Easy peasy!
