UK Primary Schools Hire Indian Maths Teachers to Give Cyber Lessons

Teachers in India are giving maths lessons online to UK pupils. Demand for the online interactive sessions is massive and they are being rolled out to over 150 schools across the UK. Graduates in Punjab have been giving one-to-one lessons to hundreds of primary and secondary students over the internet.

While this won’t work for every subject, there are a lot of subjects where this approach can work to give individual pupils extra help in specific areas they are struggling with. While a teacher has to cover a set syllabus, they don’t have the time to then focus on each pupil individually, so this online tutor solution fills that gap.

Many schools say the cost is half the cost of hiring staff to undertake one-to-one tutoring in the class.

Russel Hobby, of the National Association of Head Teachers, declared they have been using the service of cyber lessons for four months, providing yYear 6 primary school pupils with the extra help they need. Russel Hoby declared “It works very well”

Kevin Imbush, Headteacher, said that the cost works out at about £13/hour for the school, per child. It would be impossible for him to recruit the one-to-one tutors needed, on demand, between 8am and 8pm to deliver this extra help in the class room.

The online tutoring helps pupils by consolidating their existing learning. Pupils have had the learning in the classroom, but this cyber teaching helps them with extra work in specific areas they struggle with.

This farming out of this work to teachers online might be questioned by many, but the schools don’t care if the cyber workers are in India or Scotland – what they care about is that the quality is good. A tutor in the UK in the room would cost a lot more than £13/hour.
